God Loves

I absolutely love the story of Moses. He had grown up in a culture that did not know the true and living God. As a matter of fact, he grew up among royalty who worshiped gods different than the gods of his forefathers. Even though he grew up in Egyptian society he came from the Hebrew people. Therefore, when the true God approached Moses he had no idea what kind of person this God was. Was this great an awesome God like the gods of the Egyptians. Those gods who motivated them to do and practice harsh things. He was not simply the god of the Egyptians, he is god of the entire earth. So what kind of person was he? Moses was very careful to ask God this question. So he waited until he knew that God found favor with him before spewing out the question. "Let me see your glory? What kind of person are you? Let me see your heart? Let me see the look in your eyes?" And God replied, if I allow you to see the endless beauty of who I am you will surely die. But it pleased God to show Moses only a snippet of the back of his back robe. And God spoke and said:

Then the LORD came down in a cloud and stood there with him; and he called out his own name, Yahweh. 6 The LORD passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The LORD! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.7 I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations.”8 Moses immediately threw himself to the ground and worshiped.

Moses in that moment became lost in the sea of love that was God. If God had shown him everything, the dept of his love would cause Moses to pass out and die on the spot. His love his so deep that it doesn't even make sense. What father would give up his own son for a broken creation. What father would be please with beating his own child so that the others he so loves would be saved. Even when we, God's created people turn our backs on him, he still loved us. Even though he knew some of us would not turn towards him, he still loved us enough to die for us. AMAZING!
